Elder: Randy Cathcart
Randy and Synthia Cathcart began attending New Hope five years ago. They had recently moved from Missouri and were getting used to their new Nashville surroundings when the Lord led them to take a drive down Wilson Pike in Brentwood. If I understand the story correctly, they drove past our church sign and the words New Hope caught Randy’s eye. He looked at Synthia and said, “Well, we could certainly use some New Hope,” and the rest was history. (Randy and Synthia, forgive me if I got any of that wrong.)
After being a part of the church for three years and serving in various ministries, Randy was nominated and served as the deacon of New Hope’s Ushers and Greeters for one year. He still continues to serve in this area as he and Synthia often volunteer to prepare communion for the worship service. Synthia is a gifted teacher and Connect Group leader and we are so thankful that she uses many of her gifts in the church.
Randy was affirmed by New Hope’s congregation as an elder at the June 2018 Town Hall Meeting. Randy’s heart for deep, meaningful prayer can be heard with every word that comes from his mouth. It is really wonderful to see how the Lord uses the gifting’s of each individual elder on the board to create a complete team. I would say that Randy has the spiritual gift of intercessory prayer. Let me tell you something, you want this church elder praying for you! Both Randy and Synthia pray in a way that reminds me a lot of how I used to feel when I heard my Grandma Huisman pray. I’m talking about the kind of prayers that make you say, “I KNOW God heard that and He’s about to do something because of it!”
Randy is currently in the development stage of creating a new prayer team for our Sunday Worship service. Please keep him and his family in your prayers as he prepares to lead a team of intercessors at New Hope Community Church. We are so blessed to have this wonderful couple at New Hope!
