“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid.”
I have had too many conversations in recent days where peace has been lost. We find ourselves surrounded by a swirling vortex of never-ending negative news stories, constant differing opinions, and an overall loss of hope for the future. This has led to a rise in depression, anxiety, and stress. To say it again, peace has been lost.
In times like these I find the balm that leads to healing for me is found in worship music. Everything around me may be in chaos, but I choose to let my heart and mind be at peace by putting on music that brings my focus back to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In Scripture when Peter stepped out of the boat during a raging storm it was when he took his eyes off Jesus that he began to sink. Most of us only focus on the fact that he eventually sank, but what about taking a deeper look at the positive in the story…PETER WALKED ON WATER!
For a brief moment Peter was able to focus on Jesus, and when did, he walked on water. The storm raged the entire time, the only thing that changed was where Peter fixed his eyes. It was the difference between walking on water and sinking into it.
It is worship that draws our eyes to our Father in heaven. It is prayer that leads us to dwell there. Let me ask you this question, where are your eyes focused these days? Are they fixed on Christ who promises you His Peace? Or are they fixed on the circumstances of this world which promise to steal your peace?
Bethel Music has a worship song called Peace. The opening words are so appropriate for this time. May they lift your eyes to the One who brings hope for the hopeless. Peace and forgiveness. In Jesus Name.
When my mind is like a battlefield
And my heart is overcome by fear
Hope seems like a ship that’s lost at sea
With enemies on every side
I’m tempted to run and hide
Your gentle whisper reaches out to me…
Holds me when I’m broken
When the whole wide world is crashing down
I fall to my knees and breathe in Your Peace
Blessings and Peace to You,
