I apologize for the changes, but there are many moving parts in trying to help those who have been affected by the tornado that came through Nashville early Tuesday morning. We had planned on helping some individuals in Donelson today and tomorrow, but now we are being told to hold off. There are a couple reasons for this.
- There are an awful lot of Nashville people helping out right now. Yes, there are a lot of jobs to be done, but large groups of people are helping out, cleaning up an area, and then moving on to the next area. We were planning on helping a pastor friend of mine, but he reached out to me last night and said a large group showed up yesterday afternoon and cleaned up all of the trees and damaged areas of his home. There is still a lot left to be done, but he is being asked to stop working because…
- Insurance companies are telling people to slow down their clean-up so they can come out and properly assess the situation. Most people are being told to wait until next week to resume clean-up efforts. Insurance companies may cover the cost of clean-up, repairs, rebuilds, etc. But that all needs to be assessed.
With that being said, it appears there are too many moving parts for us to organize a New Hope group effort, so the best way you can help is to look for ways that you or your family can reach out and offer assistance on your own time. Here are two ways you can do that:
Hands on Nashville: http://www.hon.org
Hands On Nashville is working closely with the City of Nashville and the Office of Emergency Management to ensure all of the available resources are in place to help our community in the wake of destructive tornadoes throughout Davidson and surrounding counties. Click the “Volunteer for Tornado Recovery” to sign up to volunteer. They will be adding projects over the coming weeks, so please keep checking back!
Nashville Women’s Rescue Mission:
The address for the Rescue Mission is listed at the bottom. Instead of using the church as a drop off point and us setting up a delivery date, I recommend you bring items directly to the mission so the immediate needs are met.
As of now, those are the two areas we are directing you to at this time.
I will update again when more ways to help become available.
